Expert Interview

At Preschool Readers, we know there are a variety of factors that affect a child’s learning process. As a way to remain up to date and informed on best practices, we have an Expert Interviews series. In this series, we interview experts who provide tips/tricks and suggestions for parents of preschoolers. We hope you enjoy our interview with Johanna Sanchez – a former elementary school teacher turned Founder and Owner of Local Mom Box.

Name & Job Title: Johanna Sanchez Founder and Owner at Local Mom Box

Business Name: Local Mom Box

What Services Do You Provide and Whom Do You Serve: The Local Mom Box provides fun developmental, engaging screen-free activities and crafts in a box that are all pre-prepped and ready for kids ages 3-8 to enjoy. We care about our moms, too, so we include a product for moms in the box from a local/small business.

What Are Some Signs We Can Look For To Determine If A Child Has Had Too Much Screen Time: It’s all about moderation and balance. But if you notice your child being more irritable than usual, having difficulty falling asleep, or losing interest in other non-screen activities. Then these could be signs it’s time to cut back. If you have any concerns, reach out to your pediatrician.

How Does Less Screen Time Affect a Child’s Learning Process: Studies have shown that too much screen time reduces your child’s attention span. Hands-on activities, interaction with loved ones and others, creating crafts, playing outdoors are great ways to reduce screen time and positively impact learning capabilities.

What Books Do You Recommend Parents Read To Promote Family Time: There are so many great ones, but these are the ones we are currently enjoying.

And Just For Fun… What Is One Word You Would Use To Describe Yourself As a Preschooler:  Friendly. I always loved getting a group of friends together to play whether it was gymnastics, four-square, duck-duck-goose, playing house. etc.

How Can Parents Connect With You: Please connect with us! We are on Instagram and Facebook @localmombox. Our website is www.localmombox.com. Feel free to email me at: johanna@localmombox.com.
