Meet Finley.
Kaitlin, Finley’s mom, decided to sign her up for Preschool Readers Virtual Reading Sessions after choosing to keep Finley home from her last year of preschool due to COVID. Kaitlin was skeptical about virtual learning because it hadn’t gone well when Finley’s preschool class went remote last year – Finley was very disengaged and it became a battle for mom to get Finley to even want to sit in front of the computer despite the opportunity to see her teachers and classmates.

Finley was not yet reading when Preschool Reading Specialist, Ms. Katie, started working with her.
Finley had shown an interest in reading and knew most of her letters and sounds, but she wasn’t reading any words by sight. Mom wanted Finley to be as prepared as possible for Kindergarten and was looking for guidance herself as to what she could be doing at home to support Finley.

After only 24 sessions with Preschool Readers, Finley is reading at a mid-first grade reading level!
Kaitlin states that “From day one of Preschool Readers Finely has loved learning and spending time with her teacher, Miss Katie. Finley has thrived with one-to-one virtual sessions and she is so excited for new words each week. It’s been amazing to see her make connections with her sight words while reading outside of sessions and it continuously motivates her to keep learning more.”

At the completion of Preschool Readers Phase One, Finley was assessed and assigned a guided reading level based on word knowledge and comprehension. Then, we sent mom a link to leveled books – which mom could purchase or borrow from her local library – to help engage Finley in reading (the more Finley reads, the better reader she will become)!

We’ve maximized Finley’s potential through our accelerated instruction, giving her a true academic advantage!
This means Finley will start kindergarten this fall with confidence and an edge up on the demanding & rigorous school curriculum.

Finley’s Preschool Reading Specialist, Ms. Katie shares, “Finley is JUST BEYOND AMAZING! Finley is so well focused and always has a positive attitude about learning- she makes teaching even more fun! She reads the books independently and enjoys the worksheets and games! Finley is a quick learner and you can tell she practices consistently outside of our time!”

Onto Preschool Readers Phase Two.
Kaitlin looks forward to continuing Finley’s reading sessions stating, “Miss Katie has been an absolutely wonderful teacher for Finley thus far. Finley is excited for her sessions each week and Miss Katie teaches with an awesome balance of fun and silliness while also keeping Finley attentive and on task – not an easy thing to do, especially virtually. Her sessions give us structure for what to work on independently during the remainder of the week, which I was desperately in need of prior to starting Preschool Readers. It has been so cool to see Finley connect the dots as we read books she’s known for years and it’s even cooler when she can read her words in brand new books she’s unfamiliar with.
